Ironically as of today, more than 17 U.S. States have enacted (or are in the process) laws banning the teaching of “critical race theory” which examines social, cultural, and legal issues as they relate to race and racism. In addition, 14 states have enacted 22 laws to make it harder for citizens to vote, especially absentee and by mail.
But also, today is the birthday party for my 1-year-old granddaughter, who was born in June 2020 at the heat of the Pandemic. It is for her, my 11-year-old grandson, my three grown children, and in general for all of us to realize the sacrifices that blacks have made to this Country!
While all of us have a right to our own opinions, the facts of history about how this Country was created, the treatment of its people, and the current issues that still need attention to help make this land a place where “all people can be treated with dignity and respect” and have equal access (and support) to the pursuit of happiness, cannot be denied!!
However, you decide to celebrate Juneteenth, remember that ideally, we all want to live a healthy and happy life with our family and friends, so continuously look for ways to pull each other up!
Happy Juneteenth
