Well Thanksgiving is upon us. This time of the year is when we typically get together with family and friends, eat, and give thanks to all the blessings and good parts of our lives. However, especially this year, we have endured a global pandemic, seen historic levels of unemployment, food pantry lines longest since the great depression, inflamed racism, election conspiracies, climate crisis, and the list goes on.
This year will be recorded as one of the worst, and most difficult in modern times…yet we have things to be thankful for. First, I am thankful for my health, my family’s health, the fact that more people voted in the 2020 general election than any other time in history. And although I did vote at the top of the ticket for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, I’m more thankful that our Country will once again have a leader who is more concerned about bringing us together than dividing us.
The fact is I have lived in this Country for sixty plus years, and have been governed by Presidents in Republican Administrations, and Presidents in Democratic Administrations, and never have I witnessed a U.S. President do many of the harmful things that Trump has gotten away with, and specifically a Republican Party stand by and in many cases enable and/or promote the harmful behavior.
So yes 2020 is a year we all may want to forget – but I say remember it and have comfort in the fact that when America shows up in masses and participates in the democratic process the ship will straighten itself, and as a Navy Veteran it’s always nice to see the ship upright…and still the work continues to keep it so.
Happy Thanksgiving!
