The tragic crime that took place at Sandy Hook may have been the tipping point for policy makers and legislators to take action on gun issues that significantly affect the safety of many human lives. Is the right to bear arms more important than the right to live? That is the basic question all Americans should ask! I believe when the 2nd Amendment was enacted it was not with the intent for citizens to arm themselves with semi-automatic weapons that mirror those of our military’s M-16 weapon? No individual can honestly justify the use of this type of weapon (outside of use in war battle) for personal use!
Public employees should especially now pay closer attention to what investments their pension funds are engaged in, and who are the persons making investments on their behalf – which they have a right and responsibility to elect. However most public employees never participate in the election of their pension fund leadership. I should know because over the years I never used to pay much attention to the matter – and most of my colleagues didn’t either. But that is going to change for me. And I urge every other public employee/retiree to pay closer attention to the management of their retirement accounts. You do have the power to elect persons who share your concerns regarding what type of investments you want (or don’t want) to be involved in.
Start treating your right to elect pension fund leaders just as important as your right to vote for President of the United States. They both could have significant consequences on your life.
