Regardless of your position about democrat vs republican values, this November election is about our DEMOCRACY…make no mistake about it! I was a young teenager growing up during the civil rights movement, and I remember the protests in the streets throughout our Country. I remember seeing police dogs turned on peaceful protestors, and police using baton sticks, and tear gas on college students organizing and protesting the injustices of the time.
I know many of you reading this may say “what can I do as an individual” to help make this a Country where all of us can live together in peace & civility. It may sound like an impossible task, but our former generations did not give up just because it looked difficult or impossible to change history moving forward!
Those before us who fought for freedom, and equity for all were brave and courageous men, women, and yes many were just teenagers. They stood amid resistance, violence, and even death!
This is a pivotal moment in our history, and the history of our children, and grandchildren. So, what can we do as an individual to help move our nation to a better place?
- First, we must VOTE DEMOCRATIC November 3rd, and support others to do so as well. If you feel that voting in person is not safe or practical for you, vote by mail early, or complete your mail ballot, and drop it off at a polling place on election day.
- Second, strongly encourage voters in battleground states (i.e. Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin) to vote DEMOCRATIC.
- Third, after election day immediately start a nationwide Civic Engagement Movement to educate, and prepare citizens to actively engage in local, state, and federal elections.
